Rod & Reel Motel. Terrible owners. Horrible rooms. Do NOT stay here.
My family and I live in Rockport and we've had to stay out of our home twice in the past couple of years. Once last year for a broken A/C and today because our power is out. Last year we went to the Rod & Reel and stayed for two days. It's tiny, dirty and half of the furnishings are broken but it was cheap and better than nothing.
Today we went there again. As it turned out we were three dollars short of what we needed to stay for the night. Even though it is the hottest part of summer and we have an 18 month old daughter they refused to budge on the (apparently oh-so-important) three dollars, even knowing our situation.
Family owned with NO family values, it seems.
And, really, $70 for the night is far too expensive for such a crappy room.
We found the VILLAGE INN not too far away and they worked with us, dropping their price enough so that we could afford to keep our daughter safe for the night. The room we are in right now is bigger than the ones at the Rod & Reel. It is also much cleaner and the appliances are newer and in far better shape. VILLAGE INN is normally just about the same price (about six dollars more, without the discount they gave us) but it is DEFINITELY worth it, considering how much nicer it is and the fact that the staff actually values their customers.
PLEASE. Don't waste your money at the Rod & Reel.
